What file format should I use for uploading my photograph?

The best for uploading digital photos is the JPG format, but we also accept TIF images.

How do I upload a photograph?

Begin with the "Let’s get started" page and click on the "Browse…" button. This will send you to your computer's file folders. Select the folder on your computer where you where you keep the photo you would like to send and double-click on the file you would like to pick. Then click on the "Upload Photo" button and your photo will start uploading. It may take a few minutes, but perhaps only a few seconds. You will see a message on the screen when the process has been successful.

What is the best resolution to use?

Most models of digital cameras take photos that work well with our technique. Set your camera in the higher resolution range, we will let you know if the pixel size is adequate for the size print you have selected.

I don’t know how to get the photo from my camera to the computer?

Use the connecting cable that came with your camera that allows you to move the pictures from the camera to the computer. Some cameras have a removable memory card that allows you to use a memory card reader to drag the photos from the card into the folder where you store them on your computer.

What if my photo is an odd or unusual size?

We can provide a custom quotation based on a price per-square-inch formula. Our size range is 44” by any length.

Can I use a photograph taken by a professional photographer?

Yes, but you will need to verify with the professional that they have granted permission to have a painting or a photo-realistic likeness created from the images that you have sent to us. You assume the liability of any copyrighted materials permission waivers being obtained.

Can I mail in an actual photograph instead of a digital one?

Yes, we will scan your photo for you and return it to you. We promise to take good care of it for you. We know that some favorite photographs are a little older than digital cameras and you may not have access to a scanner. There is a $12 additional charge for this service.

How do I know whether I will prefer a painting on canvas or fine art paper?

Most people prefer canvas for a number of reasons: the technique has a softly textured brushstroke quality built into it so when printed, wrapped and sprayed with a protective lacquer it looks just like the original commissioned piece of art that it is. The paintings on fine art paper also look great but usually incur the added expense of matting and framing with glass or plexiglass, complicating the shipping procedure.

What is stretching and wrapping (museum wrap)?

A contemporary trend is hanging paintings without a frame, but having the painted image stretched around the edges of the wooden stretcher bars. When done with standard ¾” stretcher bars, the painting can be framed later if desired.

My photo needs a little retouching before being made into a painting. Can you do this?

Absolutely. Please include any comments about desired improvements and we’ll take it from there. Minor revisions are free, we’ll let you know if the changes warrant a $50 upcharge.

If I have a problem with the way my preview looks can I get a revision?

Yes. We will create a second preview at no cost based on your comments.

Can I get good framing at the same time I get my painting done?

Our framers have 20 years of professional experience and offer both thin and wide quality wood frame profiles in 6 colors.

What about shipping costs?

It depends on the finished weight of your order. Framed canvas is less than matted and framed paper prints behind glass because of the weight and extra padding needed. We use the standard UPS rates based on size, weight and destination.
